Profile

Since becoming a member of Chambers in 2005, Edward has developed expertise in line with Littleton's main areas of work.

Edward has a busy commercial practice, receiving instructions in a range of matters covering commercial fraud, business sale and contract disputes, breach of confidence, indirect taxation, company law (including insolvency), commercial agency, asset freezing and recovery, banking and sale of goods. He appeared in the Court of Appeal in the case of Field v Keen Phillips [2006] All ER (D) 160 (Nov) and is currently instructed in a long running international arbitration brought by a large multinational company against a number of its joint venture partners.

In the employment field Edward receives regular instructions in a range of matters covering the full spectrum of employment issues, including individual employee issues, discrimination, bonus/share option disputes and employment injunctions. He regularly appears in the High Court and county courts in claims for injunctive relief and speedy trials and is also an experienced advocate in the employment tribunal and the EAT. Recent cases of note include two of the lead decisions on the application of statutory dismissal and disciplinary procedures, Mason v Ward End Primary School [2006] IRLR 432 and YMCA Training v Stewart [2007] IRLR 185, and an important case relating to worker status, James v Redcats (Brands) Ltd [2007] ICR 1006.

Edward also has a particular interest in sports law, having previously played rugby professionally himself. He is regularly instructed as an advocate at disciplinary hearings and was recently led by Tim Higginson in the high profile case of Gomarsall v Worcester Rugby Football Club in the High Court.

Edward is a contributor to Restrictive Covenants and Confidential Information, Brearly and Bloch, and recently assisted Sam Haubold with his article, "A tale of two cities: differences between the approach to res judicata in London and New York", Global Arbitration Review Vol. 2 Issue 3, July 2007. He also regularly writes for Tolley's Employment Newsletter.
