Richard Powell is a barrister specialising in employment law and has been described as ‘cool, calm…and meticulous’ by one of his major clients.

Called to the Bar in 1991, Richard became a qualified mediator in 1997 and part-time Chairman of the Employment Tribunal in 2002. Between 1999 and 2005 he acted as DLA Piper Rudnick’s in-house employment counsel, during which period he acted for all of their major clients in tribunal and county court employment and discrimination matters.

Richard’s regular clients include Tesco Stores Ltd (the biggest employer in the UK), Abbey National, Virgin Retail, Menzies and Telewest Plc, among others. Richard has acted in allegations of discrimination for the CEOs of two of the largest retailers and banks in the UK.

Richard works with DLA Piper Rudnick’s national training business; writing and presenting good practice training for employers. Recent training has been provided to the Deputy Prime ministers office, the Charity Commission, The Passport Agency, the War Graves Commission, the Insolvency Service and a variety of local government institutions.
