Ian Mayes QC

"The others just kept telling us why we couldn't do what we wanted. Ian sat down with us, listened to us and told us how we could."

Over more than thirty years he has appeared in every type of tribunal in the UK and many abroad. He cut his teeth as an advocate in the secondary banking crisis of the seventies and acted for the Department of Trade in its inspection of London Capital Group Ltd, the bank run by disappearing MP, John Stonehouse.

For ten years before he took silk, in 1993, he was Standing Counsel to the Inland Revenue but worked on both sides of the street, representing many high profile individuals and corporations, including Octav Botnar and Nissan UK, against the Revenue.

He is a Bencher of Middle Temple and the Treasurer of the Temple Church.
