Katherine apps

Katherine joined Littleton in 2007. Her key cases include:

  • R (on the application of G) v X School and Y City Council [2011] UKSC 30; [2011] IRLR 756: right to legal representation at an internal employment disciplinary hearing under Article 6 ECHR (Supreme Court and Court of Appeal).  Katherine was instructed by the successful local authority.
  • W (brought by her litigation friend B) v M [2011] EWHC 2443 (COP): the first application to withhold and withdraw artificial nutrition and hydration from a person in the minimally conscious state (MCS). Katherine was instructed by the Official Solicitor.
  • British Airline Pilots Association (BALPA) v British Airways (2009): High Court expedited trial (discontinued). First trial concerning the scope of right to strike and free movement since the ECJ judgments in Viking and Laval.
  • Dwain Chambers v British Olympic Association [2008] EWHC 2028 (QB): High Court, June 2008. Sprinter Dwain Chambers’ challenge to rules preventing him from running in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Katherine is on the Attorney General’s Panel of Counsel (C Panel), the Equalities and Human Rights Commission Panel of Approved Counsel and is one of the Pro Bono panel of Sports Advocates for the London 2012 Olympics.

In 2008 Katherine was Judicial Assistant to Waller LJ in the Court of Appeal, where she assisted on cases including Abbey National v OFT, the bank charges case. In 2006 Katherine was stagière at the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg. Katherine's cases now often concern aspects of European law.
