ON SPORT

As we approach the end of the year we at the Sports Law Group at Littleton bring you a festive round-up of some of our blogs as they originally appeared on LawinSport.com. In this latest edition of our On Sport newsletter John Mehrzad - who raised sponsorship and came home first in the London Legal Support Trust's 2015 half marathon - comments on the introduction of the concept of "Moral Damages" by CAS for terminating a football player's contract. David Reade QC, who to keep up the theme of sporting endeavours by members of chambers took to the saddle to cycle from London to Paris, considers athletes' database rights and their protection.Andrew Clarke QC also explores the challenges faced by football clubs to retain talent and, finally, Grahame Anderson discusses the thorny topic of the right to replay a match under FA, UEFA and FIFA rules when the original game involved an ineligible/suspended player. As always, we remain grateful to Sean Cottrell and Chris Bond, CEO and Editor respectively at LawInSport, and their editorial team for their insightful comments on our first drafts.

This year our Sports Law expertise was further recognised through several professional appointments including: John Mehrzad being appointed Chairman on the FA’s Chairman’s County FA’s Anti-Discrimination Panel, as an FA Rule K arbitrator and a director of the British Association for Sport and Law; and Tim Higginson and Damian Brown QC being appointed as Legal Chairs of The British Equestrian Foundation. We are also delighted to announce that two of our junior members, Jamie Susskind and Grahame Anderson, have agreed to become co Vice Heads of the thriving Littleton Sports Law Group.

May we take this opportunity to wish you all the very best for the Christmas season. We hope you have an opportunity to recuperate ready for the New Year 2016, which promises to be an intriguing year for Sports Law in the build up to the Rio Olympics, UEFA European Championships and the continuing fall-out from high-profile governance and anti-doping scandals.
